This is what it looked like (somewhat)

We just went on our Opihi Field Trip. This field trip was basically about identifying different algae in certain groups. My group was hmsleilani and hmskylen. There were 3 jobs: Data Collector, Data Reciever, and Wave Watcher. Since the Data Collector had to touch the algae, hmleilani didn’t want to touch the algae, so hmskylen and hmsleilani had to switch jobs.

We were in knee deep water, so hmsleilani was very cautious but she ended up holding on to me while we were walking. Some 8th graders went with us, hmstayne was our photographer. She tried helping us but she got in trouble for helping us so we were on our own. Since we were on our own, we had to follow the procedures that we learned in class.

This is what the quadrat looked like.

The field trip was an adventure. We had to be careful about certain things like sea urchins and sea cucumbers while we were trying to identify certain types of algae. We didn’t see any of the dangerous animals except for Wana which is a sea urchin. We used transect lines and quadrant covers. We found different types of algae along the transect line or the quadrant covers.

Our field trip was really fun!
